성소체험기-이종호 수사

저는 한국관구 소속의 이종호 (마태오) 수사입니다. 현재 저는 수련장으로 봉사하며 두 명의 수련자들과 동반하고 있습니다. 오래전 해부학을 공부할 때 지도교수님께서 “참으로 경외해야 마땅하다. 인류를 창조한 창조주”라고 말씀하신 적이 있습니다. 이미 오래되었지만 아직도 생생한 교수님의 말씀은 저로 하여금 우리 의료봉사 수도회 수도자로서 병자와 가난한 이들을 대할 때 어떻게 복음을 실천해야 할지를 알려주는 작은 기준이 되었습니다.  가족과 사회로부터 외면당한 체 온전한 정신을 잃고 길거리로 나갈 수밖에 없었을 노숙자들과 함께 할 때, 인지장애로 시간과 장소는 물론이거니와 가족들조차도 기억하지 못하는 치매노인들과 그들을 돌보는 가려진 희생자들 가족을 만날 때, 생애 마지막 순간 병상에 누워 굵은 눈물방울로 가족에게 용서와 화해를 청하는 병든 노모와 사랑으로 이를 지켜보며 생애 마지막 작별을 고하는 임종자와 그 가족을 위로할 때, 수도회의 꽃으로서 장차 ‘교회와 수도회의 뜨락을 곱게 장식할 꽃들’인 수련자들과 더불어 학습을 하고 친교를 나누고 심지어 식사를 할 때에도 “육체를 통하여 영혼에로”를 표어로 삼아 각 사람의 존엄함을 인정하고 순수한 봉사로 마음을 가다듬었던 천주의 성 요한의 신체적 ,정신적, 영신적 돌봄의 호스피탈리티 성소를 저의 성소로 삼아 인류의 창조주 하느님 아버지께 영광을 드리고 싶습니다. 끝으로 저를 요한 수도회 수사이기에 앞서 가톨릭 신자로 불러주신 우리 주님께 감사를 드리며 제게 주어진 귀한 성소를 겸손하게 받들어 살고자 다짐합니다.

I am Matheo Lee of the Korean Province of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. At present I am the Director of Novices.  Long ago a professor teaching anatomy said, “Lord, the creator of the human beings deserves to be awed.”  What he said is still powerful to me and became a measure for me to discern how I should practice the gospel values by serving those in need as a Hospitaller Brother. I am always grateful and want to give thanks to God for being able to live my vocation faithfully following the way of St. John of God who committed his life to the poor and sick with the motto of “to the soul through the body”. I always strive to remember his mindset and attitude towards clients, their families and co-workers and all the people whom I meet in my daily life: in living with the homeless and those rejected from the society; in meeting with the elderly suffering from dementia and having contact with their families, observing the elderly and consoling the bereaved who have lost their loved ones; studying and guiding the novices who will be the hope of the Order in the future.
